Our first major fundraising effort is finally paying off and we are well on our way to having a vehicle barrier around the parking lot at the Shoofly Village Ruin interpretive site north of Payson. Rob Bauer, our contractor, recently picked up the steel from Cave Creek Ranger Station, brought it up to Shoofly last Friday and started construction over the weekend. He and his two assistants are camped on site, working long hours, and making great progress. I visited the site on Monday (5/22/23) and in just a few days they had placed all the posts around the parking area and were well started welding on the top rails. The accompanying photos will give some idea of their progress. At this rate, we can expect the project to be finished by the end of the month! More photos when it’s all done!
